My Job Hunting Style: The Method and the Madness!
I changed jobs pretty fast since the last two years. It was cool. I doubled my salary and I found a great place to work. It was pretty easy too. Besides being the cold blooded pimp that I am, there were external factors. The job market was great, my skill set was in demand, etc., I also got lots of different advices from many people. I used them all to varying degree of success. So I would like to share what my process was on finding a job.
1. I updated my resume constantly. I kept editing and revising it bit by bit every week. Then I would resubmit it to monster, careerbuilder, and other job sites every week.
2. I also sent tons of resumes to job postings in craigslist, linkedIN and others.
3. I loved recruiters. Some people hate them. Some people think they’re slimier than lawyers covered in slime. Some of them can be a bit slimy, but I worked with people that I felt I could trust. Most recruiters offer contract to perm or temp to perm jobs. That means they’re pretty much guaranteed full time jobs. So I gave them my resume and let them pimp me out even further.
4. I networked like crazy. I asked everyone I was close to to submit my resume (if their company was related to my field).
5. Then I waited for phone calls to bomb my phone. Some were from companies and some were from recruiters. By this point I was getting interviews.
6. Then I went to face-to-face interviews.
7. Then I got offers and the job. My rate of success was pretty decent. I think I was at 100% success rate of getting offers for every interview I went for my last job hunt. By this time I shut down all my resumes and told the recruiters to get lost.
